Multiple vCenters with NSX-T Cloud

Overview

Starting with Avi Vantage version 20.1.3, as part of the NSX-T cloud configuration, multiple vCenters with stretched transport zone can be added.

Multiple vCenters per NSX-T cloud:

  • Enables Multi-site deployments (Cross-VC NSX)
  • Provides universal transport zones with Stretched Clusters or Stretched Logical Networks
  • Enables utilizing underlying vSphere HA, DA, DR and DRS strategies

Multiple vCenters per NSX-T Cloud

Multiple vCenters in a transport zone can be added to single NSX-T Cloud:

Multiple vCenters

The cloud will not be ready until the SE image is created in all the vCenters.

Note: The cloud creation status will not be successful and the virtual service can be stuck if there are issues in one of the sites with SE image creation.

The Avi SE virtual machines are created in the following steps:

  1. Selecting a vCenter using the round-robin logic
  2. Choosing an ESX host based on round-robin logic

Note: There is no anti-affinity logic so Service Engines may get deployed on the same ESXi host and hosting the same virtual services.

Host/ Datastore/ Folder Scoping

Host/ datastore/ folder Scoping can be configured at each vCenter level as shown below:

  1. From the Avi UI, navigate to Infrastructure > Service Engine Group.

  2. In the Select Cloud drop down, select an NSX-T cloud.

  3. Click on Create or edit an existing SE Group.

  4. Under Placement Scope, click on Add vCenter.

  5. Configure Host Scope Service Engine within and Data Store for Service Engine Virtual Machine.
